Comedies, Calamities… and Musicals

Under the leadership of award-winning Director David O’Roark, Worthington Christian’s theatre department proudly announces this year’s performance schedule.

“God’s Favorite” | October 4 & 5

9-12 GRADE FALL PLAY

In this hilarious comedy by Neil Simon, successful Long Island businessman Joe Benjamin is a modern-day “Job” with a demanding wife, ungrateful children, and wise-cracking household employees.  Just when it seems things couldn’t get any worse, he is visited by Sidney Lipton, a.k.a. A Messenger from God (and compulsive film buff) with a mission: test Joe’s faith and report back to “the Boss.”  The Jokes and Tests of Faith fly fast and furious as Neil Simon spins a contemporary morality tale like no other in the hilarious comedy.

Tickets go on sale September 23.

“On the Worst Day of Christmas” | December 13 & 14

7-8 GRADE CHRISTMAS PLAY

Faye Couch Reeves writes this Christmas tale of Appleville, a small peaceful town – but you wouldn’t know it around Christmas time! Stress and distress run high each year for Amanda MacAfee, director of her church’s annual Christmas pageant, as the other church in town puts on their ever-expanding Christmas pageant with real animals, amazing costumes, and even flying angels.  Knowing she will never beat them at the same old game, Amanda decides this year will be different!  Instead of telling the traditional story of the manger and the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, she will instead present a reenactment of the Twelve Days of Christmas, complete with plenty of poultry…  and an unlimited potential for disaster!  Thankfully, her son Adam, wise beyond his years, is making a traditionally simple and beautiful plan of his own (just in case!)  with the help of his friends.  While leaping lords, dancing ladies, and Mrs. McIlhaney — a real cow — wait in the wings, Adam and his friends lead Amanda and all of Appleville back to the true reason the angels sang that Christmas night so long ago.

Tickets go on sale at the end of November.

TBD | February 20, 21 & 22

9-12 GRADE CAPA MUSICAL

Announcement Coming Soon!

Tickets go on sale in early February.

“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” | April 25 & 26

7-12 GRADE SPRING MUSICAL

Middle school, ugh. It’s the worst. But Greg is determined not to be at the bottom of the popularity chart. He’ll leave that to his weird neighbor, Fregley. Or maybe Greg’s best friend, Rowley Jefferson. But it’s not going to be Greg…no way. Jeff Kinney’s popular character takes center stage as Greg’s cartoon diary becomes a hilarious and heartfelt musical by Michael Mahler. Will Greg’s plans to become popular lead him to sacrifice his one true friend? Can anyone avoid the dreaded Cheese Touch? Grab a hall pass, and don’t be late for an adventure familiar to anyone who actually survived middle school.

Tickets go on sale in early April.
