Chelsea Meyers and Stephanie Custer Honored with Trustee Awards

Worthington Christian School proudly announces Joel Walton (WC ’06) as the 2025 Teacher of the Year, an honor awarded by his peers in recognition of his outstanding ability to inspire students both intellectually and spiritually. This annual award, part of the Fund for Academic Excellence, acknowledges a faculty member whose dedication to students and the classroom exemplifies the school’s mission of faith and learning. Mr. Walton teaches sophomore English and has served at WC for 14 years.

In addition to Mr. Walton’s recognition, two members of the WC community have been named recipients of Trustee Awards. Lower School STEM teacher Stephanie Custer (WC ’91) was honored for her exemplary academic service to Worthington Christian and its students. Chelsea Meyers, Upper School Administrative Assistant, received the Trustee Award recognizing unselfish service, reflecting her behind-the-scenes faithfulness and commitment to the school’s mission. Mrs. Custer and Mrs. Meyers have been at WC for 11 and seven years, respectively.

All three recipients were surprised with personal visits from Head of School Dr. Mike Hayes and Fund for Academic Excellence Chair Dan Custer, who delivered the news of their selection in person—adding a meaningful and celebratory touch to the moment.

These awards are part of the Fund for Academic Excellence, a family of funds supporting ten named scholarships and four special faculty and staff awards. Gifts may be directed to specific scholarships or awards, or given to an unrestricted account that supplements all. New scholarships and awards can be established anytime, allowing families and supporters to invest directly in the excellence of WC’s academic and spiritual mission.

Together, these honors celebrate the dedication and Christ-centered service of WC’s faculty and staff, who play an essential role in shaping the lives of students every day.
