Worthington Christian Announces Inaugural Girls Flag Football Program, Names Allie Elifritz (‘03) as Head Coach

Worthington Christian School is excited to announce the launch of its first-ever Varsity Girls Flag Football team this Spring, with Allie (Linak) Elifritz (WC ’03) named as Head Coach.

This marks a historic moment for WC Athletics, as the school joins many other central Ohio programs in fielding a team for the first time. Earlier this year, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) officially sanctioned a post-season state championship tournament for Girls Flag Football, signaling growing statewide support for the sport and expanded opportunities for female athletes. With the support of the Cleveland Browns, who provide both player clinics and coaching training, WC will join a league that has grown from six schools in 2021 to more than 60 schools in 2025.

Elifritz is no stranger to pioneering athletics at Worthington Christian. As a student, she helped launch the school’s inaugural Girls Soccer program in 2000 and was a standout on the basketball court, scoring 1,000 career points and competing in the 2001 State Semifinals. She went on to play both soccer and basketball at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, where she earned two-time NCCAA All-American honors in soccer.

Looking ahead to this new chapter, Elifritz shared, “I am excited to be a part of launching the inaugural season of Girls Flag Football at WC! I was blessed to help launch the Girls Soccer team and program as a player back in 2000, and I am thrilled to get to do it again as the coach for flag football. High school sports were such a great experience for me—the friendships, the competing, the bus rides, team meals, traditions, everything—and I can’t wait to get to start something new that encompasses all of those.”

Elifritz returned to WC in 2019 as a teacher and is now in her seventh year teaching sixth grade. She and her husband, Wes, have three children—Reese (WC ’30), Avery (WC ’32), and Sawyer (WC ’35). In addition to her classroom role, she has coached soccer at both the high school and collegiate level, currently assists with the eighth-grade Girls Volleyball team, and leads the Upper School’s Rise and Shine discipleship group for female students.

WC Athletic Director Tony Earp emphasized the significance of her leadership: “We are blessed and encouraged to have Coach Elifritz lead the charge in establishing this new opportunity for our female athletes at our school. She is a teacher and mentor who has impacted so many students at WC, and this will be another way she will help develop the mind of Christ in students and help build new skills and confidence for them to pursue this new and exciting opportunity in sports.”
