Worthington Christian is excited to welcome Angela Vargas as our new Upper School Nurse. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with a Minor in Special Education from the University of Arizona. Angela brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served for many years as an ICU nurse, preceptor, and teacher, in addition to volunteering in various capacities, including with the Delaware Department of Public Health. Angela and her husband Alfred are parents to three WC students: Sabina (8th), Sebastian (6th), and Arya (3rd).
We asked our new staff members several “getting to know you” questions; we hope you enjoy learning a bit more about Kelly!
What is the first job you ever had?
I was a barista in a Starbucks in a Barnes & Noble.
What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I restored a 1966 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia with my sister when I was a teenager, and I love driving manual transmission cars!
If you could quickly and easily learn any new skill, what would it be?
Learn to play piano or guitar.
What is your favorite home-cooked meal?
Growing up, I loved chicken mole.
Who was your favorite teacher in school, and why?
Mr. Hausman, my 5th- and then again 8th-grade math and science teacher, was someone who inspired my love of learning. He made the subjects of science so engaging and fostered my interest in them, leading to my love of science in nursing.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
From my mother – “You can do and be anything you set your mind to, just work hard, love God and those around you.”
