What Once Sounded Too Good to Be True Is Catching On in the WC Community

With the October 1 announcement of a new federal scholarship tax credit, Worthington Christian leadership is actively monitoring developments and working with our Scholarship Granting Organization (Christian Education Network) to prepare for the program’s anticipated 2027 rollout. While details continue to emerge, we cannot overstate the impact of the SGO program already available to Ohio taxpayers.

In the 2022 tax year, 99 members of the WC community participated in Ohio’s SGO tax credit program. For the 2025 tax year, that number grew to 356, a 260% increase in just three years.

What once sounded too good to be true is catching on in the WC community.

Together, these 356 WC community members and friends redirected more than $260,000 in 2025 Ohio income taxes toward financial assistance at Worthington Christian, helping make a Christian education more accessible to 114 WC students.

Behind those numbers are families whose lives have been impacted by financial assistance.

“There are too many times to count where God has called us to do something that seemed financially impossible. Coming to WC was one of those impossible situations. We had a clear call from the Lord to enroll our first child there. And of course, our first question was one of doubt. ‘God, how are we going to pay for this?’ Through WC’s financial assistance programs, God knocked our socks off, and we were able to send our first child to WC, and now the rest of the children. Our children have thrived at WC, but I am not sure who has learned more about God’s faithfulness—us or them.”

WC Family

Ohio’s SGO program offers a dollar-for-dollar state income tax credit for eligible contributions, up to $750 per individual or $1,500 for married couples filing jointly. For those who can use the full credit, it’s an opportunity to direct money they would otherwise pay in state income taxes toward WC students, without increasing their overall tax burden.

As we prepare for the potential opportunities of the federal program, there’s no reason to overlook what’s already available through Ohio’s SGO.

We invite you to discover what hundreds of WC community members already have. Download this helpful resource to share with your tax professional and explore how Ohio’s SGO tax credit could work for you.

While taxes may not be top of mind until January, now is a great time to start the conversation. If you haven’t participated, ask others in the WC community about their experience. And if you’re among the hundreds who have, help us spread the word! Share your experience, or ask others if they’re familiar with the program, and encourage them to talk with their tax professional about participating.

The more people who understand this opportunity, the more WC students and families can benefit.
