Joel MacCaughey Steps Into Head Coach Role
Worthington Christian School is excited to announce Joel MacCaughey as its new Head Varsity Swim Coach for the 2026–27 season.
MacCaughey brings more than a decade of coaching experience across a variety of competitive swimming programs, including age-group coaching with Westerville Aquatic Club, Hinsdale Swim Club, and Hornets Swim Club; high school coaching at Northland High School; and masters swimming with the YMCA of Central Ohio.
A lifelong swimmer, MacCaughey competed for Northland High School and Westerville Aquatic Club, specializing in backstroke, butterfly, and middle-distance events. His passion for the sport has since expanded to include endurance and multisport competition.
“When speaking with Joel, his passion for swimming and excitement for leading the swim program was easy to see, but even more impressive was his focus on helping athletes grow in their faith and love for Christ,” said Worthington Christian Athletic Director Tony Earp.
MacCaughey takes over the program following the retirement of longtime Head Coach Jim Peterfish, who dedicated an incredible 24 years to leading Worthington Christian’s swim program before retiring at the conclusion of last season.
Already a familiar face in the WC community, MacCaughey is married to Kristin, who serves as Lead Counselor at Worthington Christian’s Upper School. The couple has three children attending WC in seventh, fifth, and first grades.
As he steps into his new role, MacCaughey looks forward to helping Warrior swimmers develop not only their athletic abilities but also their confidence, discipline, camaraderie, and servant leadership.
