James Storey has worn several hats at WC since he was hired in 2012 including a baseball coach and part-time PE teacher. Currently, James is the Assistant Athletic Director, seventh-grade math teacher, seventh-grade boys basketball coach, and seventh and eighth-grade track coach.

What inspires you to coach?
“I love coaching seventh-graders because it’s the first year that playing a sport at WC is ‘official’ so there is a lot of teaching and learning that goes into coaching the players. Seeing the team’s chemistry come together and click inspires me.

It is also important to build the character of these young people and point them to the Lord. Teaching these kids how to handle themselves well in all situations as a testimony to others is really important.”

What is your greatest challenge in this role?
“Making cuts is probably one of the most challenging things I have to do. It’s hard to tell a player that things didn’t work out for them this season.”

How do you incorporate faith into your coaching?
“Praying with the students, learning scripture, and modeling forgiveness, grace, and my relationship with Christ are ways I incorporate faith into my coaching. I remind my players that their relationship with Christ has to be the number one thing.”
