A Vision for Christ-Centered Excellence On and Off the Court
Worthington Christian School is excited to announce that longtime teacher, coach, and mentor James Storey has been named the new Head Coach of the Warriors Boys Varsity Basketball team. A passionate educator and Christ-centered leader, Coach Storey brings over a decade of service to WC, a deep love for basketball, and a heart for discipling student-athletes.
“Coach Storey is a teacher at heart who uses basketball as a platform to empower young men in their faith, leadership, and character,” said WC Athletic Director Tony Earp. “His commitment to the mission of Worthington Christian—to develop the mind of Christ in every student—is reflected in how he prepares, leads, and serves. We are thrilled to have him leading our program.”
Coach Storey, who was recently named Worthington Christian’s 2024 Teacher of the Year, has held a variety of roles at WC since joining the faculty in 2012, including teaching math, PE, and health, coaching multiple sports, and serving as Interim Head Coach of the Varsity Basketball team during the 2022–2023 season. Under his leadership that season, the Warriors compiled a 21-5 record, won the Mid-State League (MSL) Championship, and finished as district runner-up. Storey was named MSL Coach of the Year.
A former player at Big Walnut and Ohio State Newark, Coach Storey has spent years preparing for this moment.
“For as long as I can remember, basketball has played a huge role in my life, and coaching at the varsity level has always been a dream of mine,” shared Storey. “When I was told the position was mine, describing what it meant to me was hard. I truly believe in God’s timing, and I’m thankful that He is the one who opens and closes doors. I’m excited to lead this program in a way that honors the Lord—both on and off the court.”
Storey’s coaching philosophy is rooted in helping players grow as Christian men first and athletes second. His approach to coaching emphasizes integrity, servant leadership, teamwork, and competing for an “audience of One.” He aims to help each student-athlete develop their God-given talents and find joy in the hard work and discipline that basketball requires.
Looking ahead, Coach Storey plans to invest in the entire WC basketball program, including youth and middle school levels, to build a strong foundation for the future. Please join us in congratulating Coach James Storey.
