Worthington Christian welcomes Julie Effler as a Science Teacher in our Upper School. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and a Master’s Degree in Education from The Ohio State University. Julie comes to WC having previously served as a Science Teacher in the Olentangy School District. She and her husband, Mike, have two children, Owen (WC ’36) and Eva (WC’ 38), and their family attends Powell United Methodist Church.

We asked our new staff members several “getting to know you” questions; we hope you enjoy learning a bit more about Julie!

What is the first job you ever had?
A doughnut maker/decorator at Patterson Fruit Farm in northeast Ohio.

What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?
My heritage is rooted in Worthington! One of my ancestors, Abner Pinney, was a “founding father” and settled the area with James Kilbourne.

If you could quickly and easily learn any new skill, what would it be?
Carpentry. I would love to be more handy and have the ability to build things.

What makes a “good day” at school?
One that is full of great conversation and critical thinking, and one where I can see students solve a challenging problem with the help of their peers.

Who was your favorite teacher in school, and why?
My high school home ec teacher. She encouraged me to volunteer at the local hospital and was always a positive role model.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
From my high school cross country coach: You are stronger and braver than you think!

What is a passage of Scripture you turn to for encouragement?
Romans 5:3-4
